Information security is a complicated field with many branches and specializations. There are many information security related training programs and certification exams like CISSP, CEH, CHFI, CISM, CISA and many more. These certification programs help the candidates to find a better job and show their competency according to their certification and its creditability in the industry.
With the high number of graduates and the economical downturn, the technology related job market has become very competitive and it is harder for professionals to find jobs. This competition means that IT professionals need to continually invest in their education by attending workshops, exam review seminars and passing exams.
Nevertheless, the rapid changes in the IT industry require continuous training for the IT professionals to keep up their competency & capability in the tough job market.
The certification bodies and training providers are also in competition, one with another. They fight their own battles to gain a better market share and to improve their creditability and so gain a competitive advantage over their rivals. The reality of competition is that it has both beneficial and harmful side effects. It comes in both constructive and destructive forms. A destructive form of competition can be characterized by the tendency toward extreme and unhealthy competition.
Although the actual battle is between the certification bodies, there are those who want to take advantage of the IT professional’s need to train and learn. These less scrupulous organizations create and sell products, in variety market segments, by using false statements and misleading advertising. The most common way to attract people, who are desperately looking for a job or for ways to find a better position, is to make unreal promises such as:
- Want to be the Best Professional Ethical Hacker? Want to work with top IT companies & government departments like FBI, Homeland Security, IB, RAW & DEFENCE as a PROFESSIONAL ETHICAL HACKER & SECURITY EXPERT? Want to make your dreams career come true by earning 20 lac+ per annum.
- Want to pass CEH, CHFI, CISSP, CISA ? Want to protect your passwords & information?
The above statement are a direct quote from the Haking9 Newsletter published on May 5, 2010 by a company offering its product, “THE SECRET OF HACKING”.
I have received questions from several readers of Haking9 asking if the “THE SECRET OF HACKING” is connected or related to the “Live Hacking: The Ultimate Guide to Hacking Techniques & Countermeasures for Ethical Hackers & IT Security Experts” book or the “Live Hacking CD” project & workshops. I would like to clarify that there is no connection between Live Hacking and “THE SECRET OF HACKING”.
